Report: Chiefs at Chelsea really like their £35m player, Mauricio Pochettino lost it at him last season

Chelsea are in the midst of somewhat of a first team clear out in an attempt to make space for new signings ahead of next season.

The Blues will be looking to give the best possible platform for new manager Enzo Maresca to succeed, and it looks like they believe new stars are key to that.

Ian Maatsen looks set to be the first big-name sale of the summer, and one who could be a domino effect for a number of transfers away from Stamford Bridge.

One player Liverpool in particular were reportedly interested in signing isLevi Colwill, however the standpoint at this stage is that he is absolutely not for sale.

A player in a similar role who has perhaps not set the world alight quite as much as the Englishman is Benoit Badiashile. Mauricio Pochettino was open in his criticism of him last season.

Chelsea chiefs big fans of Benoit Badiashile

However, according to The Athletic, people at the club are really high on him, despite his inconsistent start to life in West London since his £35m move in January 2023.

It remains to be seen who the new boss is looking to start at the back, with a number of different combinations surely going to be tested out in the pre-season tour of the United States.

Hope for Wesley Fofana to return in pre-season

One player he will be hopefully be able to consider in his plans is Wesley Fofana, who didn’t play a single minute last season off the back of a serious knee injury.

The Frenchman is still seen as a player who can have a big future at Chelsea, although has hardly been able to put a string of games together since his move here two years ago.

One defender who could still join Thiago Silva in leaving the club is Trevoh Chalobah, who seems to not feature in the club’s long term plans.
