'Really difficult': Kieran Gibbs fears Inter Miami could struggle to keep hold of one attacker now

Kieran Gibbs has shared his concern about one Inter Miami attacker potentially catching the eye of other clubs after his recent form for the Herons.

The Florida franchise have coped quite well in recent weeks without their star attackers in Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Matias Rojas, with Inter Miami players from all positions chipping in with vital goals.

Defender Ian Fray’s emotional header last time out against the Columbus Crew was the pick of the bunch, with the youngster marking his return from injury with a goal almost one year to the day he picked up an ACL injury.

Yet one attacker who has impressed could now be at threat from attracting interest from rival teams.

Inter Miami star Leonardo Campana could be subject to transfer interest

Speaking on the Inter Miami Weekly Show, former defender Gibbs highlighted that Leonardo Campana’s recent form could lead to interest this summer, with the striker leading the line expertly for the Herons with Messi and Suarez away.

Gibbs said on Campana’s recent form: “I’m seeing a case where it’s going to be difficult to keep hold of a player like that, because they’re performing when they’re coming off the bench, they’re performing when they’re starting, and he’s a player who’s performed when he was the sole striker for Miami.

“So you see these cases every so often, and it seems like he’s one of them, he doesn’t seem to be affected when he’s not playing, which is great for a manager, but really difficult to keep hold of these players, which is a credit to him, because he’s proving that when you don’t play, he’s going to perform, and when you do, he’s going to perform, so it’s going to be more and more difficult to leave him out.

“Another mentality monster, because he’s not listening to outside noise, and he’s not doubting himself, so when you get a player like that, other clubs are going to come knocking. But at the moment, he seems pretty happy to be here and chipping in for his team, so Miami have to be delighted with him at the moment.”

Herons could consider transfer at the end of the year

With Campana on a Designated Player contract, the temptation to offload the striker if his deal can’t be bought down will be high from Inter Miami come the 2025 January transfer window.

With the Venezuela international just 23-years-old and improving with every season, there’s a good chance that Campana could consider a move to Europe if a top team was to register an interest in the striker.

Indeed, the forward is good enough to one day make the big leagues, and if Campana keeps impressing, Inter Miami could be tempted by a big offer in January to let their third DP leave for Europe.
