'Travelled for medical': Romano says £45m midfielder Spurs reportedly want is now closing in on PL rival move

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to have a busy summer on the transfer front as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of next season.

Spurs have certainly improved since the 2022/23 campaign, and their future looks fairly bright with Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

However, there is still work to do with regards to improving the overall quality and strength in depth of the Tottenham squad.

Midfield is an area Spurs could do with strengthening, and the Lilywhites have been linked with a number of players in that position over the past few months.

While Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is said to be a key target, there have also been links with a player who lit up the Championship last term.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that the player in question is set to have a medical at a rival Premier League outfit.

Tottenham target Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall set for Brighton medical

The player in question is Leicester City star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who helped his team make a swift return to the top flight after relegation in 2023.

Now they’re back in the Premier League, the Foxes must start complying with the top flight’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The club reported a pre-tax loss of £89.7million for the 2022/23 season, which means they’ll have to be careful now they’re back in the top flight, and potentially sell some of their key assets.

TalkSPORT previously reported that Tottenham had set their sights on Dewsbury-Hall – saying his valuation is around £45million – amid uncertainty over Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future.

However, Romano has now taken to X to report that Brighton seem to be closing in on the 25-year-old.

Dewsbury-Hall is currently in the south coast city ahead of his medical, and the Seagulls would be paying “in excess of £25million” for his services, added the transfer insider.

Tottenham look set to miss out on Dewsbury-Hall

Dewsbury-Hall joined the Leicester academy as an eight-year-old and has risen through the ranks to become a first-team star.

The 25-year-old has made 129 appearances for the Foxes, registering 17 goals and 20 assists, and previously likened his style of play to two Premier League greats.

The reported Tottenham target told Sky Sports back in 2022: “The ideal player to describe myself as would be a mix between Paul Scholes and Kevin De Bruyne.”

Dewsbury-Hall would’ve been a great shout for Tottenham, but sadly it looks as though they’ll miss out on him, while Brighton continue to dazzle in the scouting and transfer departments.
