Report: Postecoglou blocks Tottenham from selling 19-year-old youngster as he thinks he's a future star

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer of departures could be set to continue as Ange Postecoglou looks to really streamline his squad for the upcoming campaign.

When it comes to player arrivals this summer, Tottenham have only seen Timo Werner return through the doors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a season-long loan.

However, it has been a completely different story when it comes to player exits with Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou working to offload a number of players.

The Australian has had a full year to work out the players he wants to keep around after inheriting the Spurs squad last summer.

Some of those players have already departed with Spurs making big decisions to allow individuals like Tanguy Ndombele to move on.

And it seems a decision is now going to have to be made on one of the club’s most promising young talents.

Tottenham considering loan as Ange Postecoglou blocks sale

Although there may not have been a huge deal of minutes handed out over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, it was an impressive one for the club’s academy.

Postecoglou did struggle to hand out the minutes to the young prospects in the first team but there were some real success stories to come out of Hotspur Way.

As Wayne Burnett’s U21s won the Premier League 2 title, striker Will Lankshear also got his hands on the Player of the Season award.

Lankshear has received interest from the likes of Middlesbrough this summer already.

And according to GiveMeSport, his forward partner Jamie Donley is now subject of interest to a loan deal from Oxford City.

The newly-promoted Championship side are just one of the sides to show an interest with Spurs said to be open to his departure this summer.

However, it is stressed any move for Donley will only be on a loan basis with the 19-year-old really catching the eye of Postecoglou and Levy.

A number of Football League clubs are said to be keen in the Spurs star which leaves Tottenham with a decision to make on where they feel he could develop his talent best.

Tottenham need to handle Jamie Donley carefully

In the report, Donley is likened as the ‘next Harry Kane‘ which is something which all Spurs attackers would dream of being labelled as.

The 19-year-old scored eight times last season across all competitions and provided an impressive return of 17 assists.

However, Spurs have seen many talents come through their academy looking like the next big thing then really struggle when out on loan.

Fans only have to look as far as Dane Scarlett who looked ready to make the leap into men’s football before enduring his issues out on loan with Portsmouth and Ipswich in recent seasons.

Spurs will be keen for Donley to continue his development and finding the right club is going to be key.
