'Credit to him': Jordan Pickford has just picked who he thinks is Newcastle Player of the Season

Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has now picked out who he thinks has been Newcastle United’s best player this season.

As a former Sunderland player and still a huge supporter, Pickford managed to put his differences aside and give some praise to one of Newcastle’s most important players.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Pickford gave a lot of credit to one Newcastle star who he thinks has been really consistent in his goalscoring this season.

Pickford shares which Newcastle star impressed him the most

It’s been a bit of a tough season for the Geordies after last year’s Champions League success and trip to Wembley in the Carabao Cup final for the first time in their history.

However, they are now facing a mid table finish in the Premier League having lost some key games this season which has left them very little to play for having exited all other competitions.

That said, there has still been some individual brilliance in the team with Anthony Gordon enjoying a breakthrough season which has seen him called up to the England first-team squad for the first time ever, linking up with former Everton teammate Pickford.

The shot-stopper has been really impressed with Gordon’s efforts this year having watched him go from a promising talent on Merseyside to a leader and top goalscorer at Newcastle.

On Gordon, Pickford said: “Ant wanted to leave and he went to Newcastle, and I think he has been their best player with his performances for them this season. He’s been consistent in picking up goals so credit to him.”

Gordon can take another step next season

IN what has been a very hectic season during which Gordon has probably had to play more than he would have liked due to serious injuries which have left Eddie Howe with very few options.

Harvey Barnes, who would have been back up to Gordon, has missed around four months and is now injured again while injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have forced the 23-year-old to be played as a striker at times.

Hopefully as players return and the injuries lessen next year, Gordon will be able to enjoy more of a rest during the season at times and come back even stronger to help Newcastle’s attack.

The former Everton man is still only young and has plenty for more room to develop his talents under Howe who has shown so much belief in his £45m signing.
