'They've got to...': Sky Sports pundit gives score prediction for Leicester City vs Birmingham City

Leicester City host Birmingham City in the Championship on Saturday.

Leicester City return to Championship action against strugglers Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.

And it’s a huge potential banana skin for Enzo Maresca‘s side who now find themselves in 3rd place of the Championship table ahead of this weekend.

The Foxes are now a point behind Leeds United in 2nd and two points behind Ipswich Town in 1st.

It comes after a mixed run of form in recent weeks; the Foxes have won just two of their last seven, losing four.

Last time out, Leicester City returned to winning ways with a confident 3-1 win vs Norwich City, though Birmingham City also got a win last time out.

Gary Rowett has returned to the club in Tony Mowbray’s absence and Blues beat Preston 1-0 on Monday; their first win in eight.

In Leicester’s club history, the Foxes have beaten Birmingham 60 times, losing 51 times, and drawing 26.

The reverse fixture earlier in the season ended in a 3-2 Leicester win at St Andrew’s, though the pair met in the FA Cup in January, with the Foxes winning 3-0.

Birmingham City haven’t beaten the Foxes since 2011; a 2-0 Championship win with goals from Marlon king and Chris Wood.

Leicester City have won their last seven games against Birmingham City.

David Prutton shares score prediction for Leicester City vs Birmingham City

Giving his score prediction for the clash at the King Power on Saturday, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton said on the Official EFL Podcast:

“If they’ve got any aspirations of getting back in the automatic hunt, they’ve got to beat Birmingham.”

He added:

“All the big-hitters stepped up [against Norwich City]; Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Stephy Mavididi, Jamie Vardy, all did their job.”

Prutton predicts a 2-0 win for Leicester City against Birmingham City.

Enzo Maresca needs to find calm during storm

The fact that Leicester are now in 3rd after spending the vast majority of the season well clear at the top is pretty shocking.

But they have a game in hand.

The Foxes, should they win that game in hand, will be right back at the top of the Championship table, and so there’s no need to panic.

But given recent form, panic is inevitable.

Maresca now needs to find a way of calming his players ahead of their final seven games, though given a lack of managerial experience from Maresca and a pretty youthful side, that might be easier said than done.

Birmingham City though are a good opponent for Leicester right now, especially at home.

Although they’ll pose a threat and will surely prove difficult for the Foxes, it remains a game between teams at very different ends of the table.

Like Prutton says, Leicester really should be winning this one.

Kick off is at 3pm on Saturday.
