'Lost the ball...': 5/10 Leicester City attacker 'struggled' v Birmingham City, his xG was nearly 0

One Leicester City player struggled in particular as the Foxes scraped a 2-1 win against Birmingham City.

Leicester City continue to make hard work for themselves in the race for promotion from the Championship.

But in the end, the Foxes got over the line against a stubborn Birmingham City side, earning a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium courtesy of goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Stephy Mavididi.

Enzo Maresca now finds his side back at the top of the Championship table after Ipswich Town lost against Norwich City in the early kick off, with Leeds United then losing at Coventry City.

There remains just two points between Leicester in 1st and Leeds in 2nd.

The Foxes though have a game in hand, with a trip to Millwall coming up on Tuesday night.

Against a more hardened Birmingham City side under Gary Rowett, Leicester would’ve known Saturday’s game would be hard work.

Both teams are in crucial situations at the opposite ends of the table and the game definitely panned out how most expected.

Leicester were of course expected to win, though Blues made it very difficult.

As per Sofascore, Leicester City had 68% possession and 17 shots, compared to Birmingham City’s 11 shots.

And there were some strong performances within the Leicester camp, from the likes of goal scorers Dewsbury-Hall and Mavididi, and Harry Winks too.

Though there were some not-so-impressive displays too.

Several individuals struggled, including Callum Doyle who was brought off at half-time, and Mads Hermansen in goal.

But striker Patson Daka struggled.

The Zambian has been in and out of the team this season, and despite scoring seven in 16, with five assists this season, there’s been criticisms of him and the rest of the Leicester attackers.

They’ve not been overly-potent during the last few weeks in particular, with Daka struggling to get into the Birmingham game.

Leicestershire Live rated his performance 5/10, with journalist Jordan Blackwell writing:

“The lay-off for Dewsbury-Hall’s goal was good, but it was his only real highlight. Otherwise, he struggled to bring the ball under control, whether in the box or on the halfway line and lost the ball at times too.”

Daka provided the assist for Dewsbury-Hall’s goal.

As per Sofascore, Daka lost possession 5 times, with 1 shot off target and 1 on target, with an xG of just 0.08.

Leicester City fixtures remaining

Leicester have just six games left; away games vs Millwall, Plymouth Argyle, and Preston, and home games vs West Brom, Southampton, and Blackburn.

It’s a mixed run-in with winnable games and tougher ones.

For Maresca though, it’ll be about individual quality in key moments.

He’ll need players like Daka who have undeniable quality to prove it in the final weeks; failing that, it could be a very nervy finale for the Foxes.
