'Been told': Chelsea could now sign 'world-class' player for just £30m this summer - journalist

Chelsea could have the chance to do one of the deals of the summer when the transfer window opens.

Chelsea are likely to sign a new striker before the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Last summer, the Blues bought Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal to boost their attack.

In 35 appearances this term, Jackson has scored 12 goals. It is not the worst record, but Chelsea probably need a bit more than that to get back into the top four.

The 22-year-old is also the only recognised centre-forward in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad right now. He cost the club £32m and is now worth three times that.

Chelsea could sign ‘world-class’ striker for just £30m

Because of Chelsea’s lack of options up front at present and their current league position, they may very well have to dip into the transfer market to sign a new striker.

At this point, it would be quite a surprise if they did not.

Regarding who could arrive at Stamford Bridge, then, the Blues have been heavily linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea and many other Premier League clubs are interested in signing Toney this summer.

Plettenberg has also claimed that he has “been told” that the 28-year-old could cost as little as £30m.

He has been described as a “world-class” player in the past by former team-mate Hermann Hreidarsson.

Ivan Toney’s contract

Honestly, it is really hard to imagine Brentford selling Toney for as little as £30m.

The England international is their best player, scoring 21 goals in 35 outings last season.

However, his contract is running down. It expires in 2025, meaning the Bees may have to sell in the summer or next January.

And with their Premier League rivals being aware of that, maybe they will try and lowball them. The former Peterborough United man is certainly someone to keep an eye on in the next transfer window.
