'If you look': Wolves boss Gary O'Neil now shares what he's noticed about Nottingham Forest under Nuno

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has now shared what he’s noticed about Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 40-year-old takes his side to the City Ground today, in a game Nottingham Forest really need to win if relegation fears are to be eased.

Just four goals separate Nottingham Forest from the relegation zone, and with a tough test against Manchester City to follow next week’s huge game against Everton, a win today would be most welcome.

So, what has Gary O’Neil noticed about Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo? Lets’s take a look…

Well, the man from Beckenham thinks Nottingham Forest no longer play with nine players behind the ball – as they did under Steve Cooper.

O’Neil is quoted by Wolves as saying: “If you look back to the home game, it was 1-1 and a very sort of defensive set-up from them. They sat there with nine players defending and a couple of counter attacks.

“They don’t play anything like that anymore. They’re still a big counter attack threat because of what they have on the pitch, but a very different style, so it’ll be a different test.”

As O’Neil states, the reverse fixture at Molineux back in December did see Nottingham Forest adopt quite a negative approach, with WhoScored showing just 32% possession for the Reds.

4-2-3-1 is more likely to hurt Wolves

Cooper used a 3-5-2 formation on that day back in December with Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga up front together.

Nuno has since altered the lineup to something more traditional, with an old fashioned No.9 in Chris Wood scoring vital goals, flanked by daring wingers in Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

In our view, this system has a far greater chance of troubling Wolves today, as O’Neil uses Nelson Semedo and Matt Doherty as wing-backs who push high up the pitch, potentially leaving space out wide for Nottingham Forest’s electric wingers to cause havoc.

Hopefully, Nuno can guide the Reds to another vital win, after that memorable 3-1 victory over Fulham at the City Ground last time out.
