£28m player says Newcastle fans did something 'special' for him during game against Tottenham

Newcastle United’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was incredibly special, for multiple reasons.

Firstly, it was an emphatic win that dragged us up to sixth in the Premier League. Europa League football looks more likely than ever, while there is even an outside chance of us finishing as high as fifth – if results go our way in the comings weeks.

Secondly, we won with a very depleted team. It proved to be a tactical masterclass from Eddie Howe, whose secret pre-match plan caught Ange Postecoglou off guard and secured a vital three points.

As well as that, there were blistering displays from the likes of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. The former scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season, while the latter continues to prove why he has been Newcastle United’s standout player during the 2023/24 campaign.

And there was also the club’s association with RNID – the Royal National Institute for Deaf People. The new haptic shirts made their debut, giving deaf fans the chance to feel the atmosphere. It is an incredible piece of technology, while it was heartwarming to see Dan Burn do a celebration in sign language.

Wor Flags produced another wonderful pre-match display against Tottenham

All of this made Saturday’s game against Tottenham special, as did the Wor Flags display before kick off.

The crowd-funded group paid tribute to Newcastle United’s local heroes, with a new banner unveiling the faces of all the boyhood Toon players in the first-team. Alongside it, another banner read: “I love representing the city, representing the people that are me.”

Lewis Hall loved what Newcastle United fans did

It was a special display from Wor Flags, and one that Lewis Hall loved. The 19-year-old featured on the banner, having grew up a Toon fan due to his father, despite being born in Slough.

He was delighted to be involved, admitting that it was a proud moment when asked about it by the Chronicle.

“I noticed it!,” he said.

“That is obviously quite special when you walk out even if you are on the bench. Seeing your face on there is quite a proud moment. It shows how the fans are right behind you. It was just a special feeling.”

The display clearly meant a lot to Hall, and it comes at a time when he is starting to feature more and more for the Magpies.

He has played a lot in recent weeks, and finally looks comfortable in a black and white shirt. That is good, because his loan deal is definitely going to become permanent in the summer after Newcastle’s win over Tottenham.

The victory means that Newcastle will not finish lower than 14th, resulting in the Magpies now being obliged to pay Chelsea £28million for the left-back.

Hopefully it proves to be money well spent, and Hall may end up featuring in even more Wor Flags displays.
