'Kicking themselves': Ben Foster thinks club must be gutted they sold 'leader' to Nottingham Forest now

Ben Foster thinks one club will be kicking themselves after letting a player with vast potential sign for Nottingham Forest.

The Reds are facing a fierce battle to remain in the Premier League this season with things getting pretty perilous.

Forest could do with a big three points coming some time soon and they face Everton at Goodison Park next weekend.

Ultimately, the four-point deduction imposed for breach financial fair play regulations could now prove costly to the Reds.

On Saturday, Forest had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Wolves, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Danilo getting on the score sheet for the Reds.

Now, Foster has been speaking about Forest and he’s a huge fan of one star man who has proved his former club wrong.

What Ben Foster has said about Morgan Gibbs-White

Well, it was a game to remember for Gibbs-White on Saturday as he headed home an equalising goal just before half time.

The player has enjoyed another pretty successful season at the City Ground and Wolves might be wishing they’d played him more often.

Gibbs-White was signed by Steve Cooper in 2022 and last season he was instrumental as Forest secured Premier League safety with a game to spare.

Now, Foster has had his say on Gibbs-White and it’s clear that he’s a very big fan of the way the 24-year-old has conducted himself since signing for Forest.

The former goalkeeper said on the latest episode of Rising Stars: “He’s had a fantastic season. I remember him signing for Nottingham Forest from Wolves and I remember thinking that’s a lot of money for a young player, it’s potential, that’s all it is at the moment.

“But I think Wolves will be kicking themselves a little bit because of what he’s turned into, it’s far surpassed probably what they saw and what a lot of people have thought.

“He has proved the doubters wrong. He really is that kind of leader. At 24 years old he really is that leader already. He is making tackles, getting forward, getting backwards and getting balls into the box.”

Forest will make serious profit on Gibbs-White

It’s going to be a sad day when Forest have to offload Gibbs-White. Hopefully, it can come on the Reds’ terms and not on the cheap because of relegation.

The player should make Forest some serious profit. Gibbs-White was signed for £25 million upfront, with a number of add ons included in the deal.

With financial fair play loitering in the background for Forest still, it does feel as though a sale – or possibly two – will happen this summer.

With Gibbs-White not on 13 goal contributions for the season – and boasting bags of potential – it does feel like Forest will have a fight on their hands.

Gibbs-White has improved on last season’s goal contribution tally and with five games still to play, there should be more to come.

Forest won’t want to make a habit of selling their best players and if they stay up they will hope to keep the wolves from the door – figuratively speaking!
