'Wow': Danny Rohl taken aback by 'unbelievable' thing Sheffield Wednesday fans have done recently

Danny Rohl has been taken aback by what Sheffield Wednesday fans have done for him recently.

It has been just over six months since Danny Rohl was appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager, shortly after Xisco Munoz’s sacking.

The Owls already sat seven points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table, having lost eight of their opening 10 fixtures under the Spaniard.

Rohl’s arrival gave Wednesday fans hope though, picking up their first win of the season in only his third match in charge.

The Yorkshire outfit then enjoyed a run of six wins in nine matches in all competitions, before suffering another blip at the start of the year.

Another run of five victories in six matches put them on the edge of staying up, but it is inconsistency that still leaves them one point from safety.

Wednesday could well go down to League One this term, but Rohl has certainly transformed the club and raised the spirits at Hillsborough.

Fans love the German and will be desperate for him to stay no matter what happens.

Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘unbelievable’ fans

The 34-year-old has now explained the ‘unbelievable’ thing supporters have done for him during his time at the club.

“The welcome was special and now the feedback from the fans,” Röhl told The Star.

“I was in the supermarket and so many people come to me and said we do a good job and asked for a picture. You see what it means for the people in our city. Sometimes when I am here at the training ground it is always work, work, work and it is not always easy to recognise what it means for the people around.

“But when you go to do more normal things in the city, wow. I was in a petrol station one morning at 7am and a driver stopped to sing my song. This is unbelievable to see and I really feel how honest and how proud people are to be part of our club. This is always the reason why you arrive in the morning and go in the evening to try everything and be prepared for the next game. This is why it is really important that we fight for the next points and our massive fans, to make them happy.”

How Danny Rohl has transformed the city

Sheffield Wednesday fans have really welcomed Danny Rohl in and made him part of the family, while he has also given back through the team’s performances and hard work on and off the pitch.

It is the relationship and the positivity around Middlewood Road that has put the Owls within a chance of staying up after such a disastrous start to the campaign.

The supporters will have to play an even more vital role in these final three games, in particular their only remaining home clash with West Brom next week.

They are going to really act as the twelfth man if they are to inspire an important win for their side.

It would be quite surprising to see Rohl stay at Wednesday if they are relegated, but fans will remember him very fondly no matter what decision he makes.
