The three Leicester players who have improved the most since Enzo Maresca became Leicester City manager - opinion

Leicester City for much of the season have led the way in the Championship and there have been a number of standout performers.

When Enzo Maresca joined the East Midlanders last summer, he was tasked with the job of rebuilding the confidence among the squad.

Having suffered relegation from the Premier League, there were several players who looked set to depart the club after a below-par season.

Though, remarkably, Maresca has been able to get so many backfiring again and with that said, here are the three most improved players.

Ricardo Pereira

Admittedly, Ricardo Pereira has always been a terrific right-back, though, that’s the point, he was always utilised solely as a defender.

Under Maresca, the 30-year-old has been reinvigorated as an inverted right-back, often stepping into midfield to partner Harry Winks.

He’s even started as a number eight on a number of occasions this term, with Hamza Choudhury slotting back in the defence.

Pereira has looked every inch of a top-end Premier League player under the Italian head coach and is without doubt one of City’s most important players.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been Leicester‘s talisman this term, netting double figures in goals and assists.

Under Brendan Rodgers, Dewsbury-Hall was mainly used as a box-to-box midfielder but Maresca has slightly tweaked his position.

He now occupies pockets just in behind the forward line and is much more involved in the attacking phase, as his phenomenal stats evince.

The 25-year-old was a nominee for the Championship Player of the Year Award, though, that ultimately went to Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville.

Jannik Vestergaard

If you’d have told Leicester fans at the beginning of the season, that Jannik Vestergaard would become one of the first names on the teamsheet, there would certainly be a few raised eyebrows.

But that’s exactly what has happened, Vestergaard is an integral part of Maresca’s system and is almost undroppable.

The towering Danish defender didn’t play a single minute of league football last term and looked a certainty to leave.

But the former Manchester City assistant recognised that he would have an important role to play in his team and now Foxes fans are calling for him to sign a new contract, as his current one ends in June.
