Ange Postecoglou has now identified ‘excellent’ centre-back target after Tosin Adarabioyo blow at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur may still look for another centre back signing this summer despite landing Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have formed a simply superb partnership this season but their absences in November really hurt.

Romero through suspension and Van de Ven through injury; Tottenham desperately missed that centre back pairing.

Ange Postecoglou was forced to go with Emerson Royal and Ben Davies in the heart of his back line and few Tottenham fans would want to see that again.

In came Radu Dragusin from Genoa with the Romanian arriving in January having shown real talent and potential over in Italy.

Dragusin has only started four Premier League games but should be a part of Tottenham’s future despite surprise links with a move to Napoli.

Dragusin impressed with starts in the final two games of the season but Tottenham may be minded to bring in another centre back as competition.

Tottenham Hotspur want Alessandro Buongiorno

Tottenham may be tempted to add another left-footed centre back this summer.

Van de Ven has been exceptional in that role but Ben Davies is the only left-footed competition in that role and he doesn’t quite have the pace to match Van de Ven’s role.

Spurs may invest in another option in that position and Torino ace Alessandro Buongiorno continues to be linked.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport now claim that Tottenham – alongside Chelsea – have ‘already made moves’ to sign Buongiorno.

Torino want around €40million (£34million) for Buongiorno, but whether Tottenham would spend that much on a player to compete with Van de Ven is unclear.

It’s noted that Napoli and AC Milan are both keen on Buongiorno but he has ‘no intention’ of joining Juventus.

Buongiorno doesn’t want to betray Torino fans by joining local rivals Juve, so a Premier League move may well be in the works.

The 24-year-old – hailed as ‘excellent’ by Roberto Mancini – has impressed in Serie A this season and could feature for Italy at Euro 2024.

Spurs will be mindful of his price rising if he shines in Germany and that may be why moves have already been made for his signature.

Tottenham to miss out on Tosin Adarabioyo

Tottenham may well move to focus on Buongiorno or other defenders because Tosin Adarabioyo seemingly isn’t heading to North London.

Spurs had been considered to be one of the favourites for Adarabioyo’s signature as he comes to the end of his contract at Fulham.

The giant centre back is ready to move on this summer and Tottenham seemed keen not offer him a stay in London.

However, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie claims that Adarabioyo looks set to sign for Newcastle United instead.

Downie claims that ‘many aspects’ of Adarabioyo’s move to Newcastle are already agreed and the expectation is that the deal will be done soon.

Adarabioyo would have appealed as a homegrown centre back on a free transfer, but Tottenham have to look elsewhere – and it could be Buongiorno who emerges as the top target.
