‘Sensational’ midfielder blocked from leaving after Fabio Paratici recommendation to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for new midfielders this summer but Ange Postecoglou may already be growing a little frustrated.

The transfer window hasn’t even really got going yet, but Tottenham Hotspur already have two signings on the way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Midfielder Lucas Bergvall and forward Timo Werner will both arrive this summer; Bergvall was agreed in February whilst Werner will be returning for another loan spell after a deal was agreed this week.

This is just the start for Tottenham with Ange Postecoglou keen to make a raft of new signings this summer.

The Tottenham manager has already outlined his plans to sell a number of players and that means plenty of signings coming in.

A midfielder or two should be a priority even with wonderkid Bergvall arriving in North London this summer.

Signing Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher is now thought to be difficult and one more midfield target may be unattainable for Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur target Ederson not for sale

Fabio Paratici may have officially stepped down from his Tottenham Hotspur duties, but he continues to serve as something of a consultant at the club.

For instance, Paratici was influential in the signing of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario last summer according to Football London.

Paratici now has another Serie A target in his sights – Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The Brazilian was simply sensational last week as Atalanta stunned Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League.

Reports claim that Paratici has recommended that Tottenham make a move for Ederson this summer.

Atalanta are no strangers to selling key players; they allowed Cristian Romero to join Tottenham in 2021.

Ederson may not be leaving though as Tuttomercatoweb claim that Atalanta now have ‘no intention’ of selling the midfielder this summer.

It’s added that Newcastle failed with a €40million (£34million) proposal in January, so it would take much more to even make them think about a deal this summer.

Who is Tottenham target Ederson?

Ederson hails from Brazil and bounced around a number of clubs in his homeland.

The 6ft tall midfielder turned out for Desportivo Brasil, Cruzeiro, Corinthians and Fortaleza before joining Salernitana in 2022.

After just six months in Italy, Atalanta snapped him up and his influence has only been growing over the course of his two years in Bergamo.

A physical and technically gifted player, Ederson can play as a number six or operate in more of a box-to-box role.

Leverkusen just couldn’t handle him last week and Ederson was branded a ‘sensational’ midfielder after the game.

Now on Tottenham’s radar, Ederson is only 24 and could have a huge future ahead of him.

We would love to see him as the main man in Tottenham’s midfield moving forward, but Atalanta look ready to throw a spanner in the works.
