Report: After Daichi Kamada, Crystal Palace now keen on bringing "excellent" £25m player to Selhurst Park for free

For Crystal Palace, this summer is heating up at lightning speed and now Dougie Freedman might be looking to steal a free agent from Spurs.

The summer transfer window hasn’t even opened yet but already Crystal Palace are proving that predictions over it being a busy few months correct.

While no players have officially arrived at Selhurst Park just yet, there are a few which are moving along nicely and deals could realistically progress at any stage.

Chadi Riad is likely to be signing number one, as he has passed his medical and is simply awaiting his deal to be finalised.

It also seems like Daichi Kamada will be on the cards for the Eagles too, as the club close in on a move for the Japanese midfielder.

Now, a completely new name has been mentioned and it could be a complete bargain.

Crystal Palace targeting free agent swoop for Ryan Sessegnon

It seems like this summer, Palace are keen to utilise the free agent market, and with Kamada already a likely arrival, now the club are also reportedly looking at Spurs’ Ryan Sessegnon.

The 24-year-old was once England’s most exciting prospect, but after a season in which he made one appearance for Spurs, he is set to depart for free, after costing £25m back in 2019.

According to a report by GiveMeSport, Sessegnon is attracting interest from a few Premier League clubs this summer as he is going to see his Spurs contract expire.

Newly promoted Ipswich Town are leading the race, but it’s added that Palace join them and Wolves in having an interest in the talented left-sided player.

As a 17-year-old wing-back for Fulham in the Championship, Sessegnon was nominated for four awards; Championship Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, Apprentice of the Year and he also made it into the Team of the Season.

This shows he has the quality, and needs the correct atmosphere to perform.

Where would Sessegnon play for Oliver Glasner’s team?

Sessegnon was once lauded as being “excellent” by Antonio Conte, and if Glasner can get him to his potential, he could be a top player, costing nothing in the way of a transfer fee.

But where will he actually fit in for Palace who don’t exactly play wingers, where Sessegnon might be hoping to play.

Instead, the Englishman could find himself as competition and a more attacking option for Glasner to use in alternation with Tyrick Mitchell.

Mitchell has done a great job at left wing-back for Palace, however, he isn’t completely comfortable in the advanced areas which could mean Glasner would be happy to have the option to use a player more naturally adept further forward.

As of now, Mitchell is the only player capable of playing in that position at Palace and that means a second option is needed regardless, and in that case, Sessegnon for free could be perfect.
