Wolves could now profit from a player they no longer even own as new clause revealed - journalist

Wolves could add some extra cash to their transfer kitty this summer as a clause has emerged regarding a player they no longer even own.

A busy transfer window beckons at Molineux after Wolves secured a 14th-place finish in the Premier League and Gary O’Neil is now looking to add reinforcements.

Southampton striker Che Adams is a player they’ve been after for a while, although Saints winning promotion to the Premier League could have blown their chances of signing him.

The Wanderers have also been regularly linked with Chelsea striker Armando Broja and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah as it’s become very clear that O’Neil wants to add forwards to his squad.

To fund their transfer window, it has been said that Wolves could sell some of their star assets. The Midlands side are no strangers to this strategy having sold £150 million worth of talent last summer, including Matheus Nunes.

The Portuguese midfielder was sold to Manchester City for £53 million and he’s rarely played under Pep Guardiola, making just six starts in the Premier League and could now be moved on just a year after joining.

Wolves could profit if Matheus Nunes leaves Manchester City

Reports have emerged that state Man City could be willing to listen to offers for Nunes who has failed to live up to expectations in Manchester.

The 25-year-old is subject to interest from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabian clubs. It’s a situation that could pique Wolves’ interest as they could profit from any eventual sale.

According to E&S journalist Liam Keen, the Old Gold will receive 10% of any profit City make on the £53 million they paid for Nunes this summer.

In short, the Premier League champions would have to receive a fee greater than the initial outlay for Wolves to receive any financial gains from the transfer and given how disappointing his campaign was, the Citizens could be willing to take a loss.

Matheus Nunes was never good enough for Man City

Many Wolves fans were delighted when they received £53 million for Nunes, especially with how he departed the club.

He was branded a “disgrace” by Chris Sutton after refusing to train and ultimately, didn’t do enough at Molineux to warrant such a lucrative move, in the eyes of many.

In his only campaign for the Wanderers after arriving from Sporting Lisbon, the midfielder produced just one goal and an assist. Although he was playing in a struggling side, Nunes hardly tore up any trees and Wolves have received the better part of the bargain.

Not only has it allowed them to snap up Tommy Doyle permanently from the champions but also seen Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes form an unbreakable partnership.

Perhaps Nunes would have been utilised by O’Neil if he didn’t jump ship, although his transfer last summer just demonstrates how the grass isn’t always greener.
