Hugo Lloris now reveals what he really thinks about Ange Postecoglou after leaving Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has now issued his very honest opinion on Ange Postecoglou just months after leaving north London.

A lot of change has been brought to Hotspur Way since Ange Postecoglou was handed the reins last summer with considerable player turnover.

Some big names have moved on from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since Postecoglou was appointed with Eric Dier and Harry Kane both departing.

And the Australian also oversaw the end of the club captain, Hugo Lloris‘, exit from the club with Guglielmo Vicario replacing him as the number one over the summer.

It is a move which has certainly worked out for the better with the Italian proving to be an instant his with the Spurs fans.

Lloris has since moved on to the MLS where he is playing for LAFC, however, he has now spoken out about how he was treated towards the backend of his time in north London.

What Hugo Lloris has now said about Ange Postecoglou

After almost 12 years in north London, Lloris’ time at the club came to an end in January when he moved on to the United States.

Although Lloris remained at the club until January, the World Cup winner was only training with the club having not been apart of any of the matchday squads.

As soon as Postecoglou landed, it was apparent that Lloris’ time as the club’s number one was over as Vicario was signed before July last year.

Lloris was not even involved in the club’s pre-season efforts as he was granted permission to seek new opportunities away from Spurs.

Speaking to Le Parisien, the Frenchman has now revealed how he actually felt following Postecoglou’s arrival in north London.

“Tottenham were coming to the end of a cycle, and so was I. I knew that Tottenham wanted to recruit younger players, especially in my position,” he said.

“Summer was approaching and I was no longer part of the plans.

“When the championship resumed, in August 2023, the coach informed me that I would no longer enter the field, that I would only be a training player. I was pushed aside, I had become transparent.”

Moving on from Hugo Lloris worked out for Ange Postecoglou

Looking back in the decision to move on from Lloris, Postecoglou is unlikely to have any regrets.

The Australian arrived with a clear plan of how he wanted to transform this Spurs side into his own and that started off between the sticks.

Lloris had shown he was now far from his best having been withdrawn at half-time in the emphatic defeat to Newcastle United late last season.

And in the Italian, Spurs have a goalkeeper who has impressed many around the league with teammate Fraser Forster waxing lyrical about Vicario already.

“I think his performances in the games have been very good and he’s made big saves. [It’s] not easy coming to a new club, new country. His English is very good which has really helped him,” Forster said.
