Ange Postecoglou could now raid Celtic as Tottenham Hotspur want ‘brilliant’ teenager

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou wants new signings this summer and he may yet be tempted to launch a raid on a former club.

Europa League football will be returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Ange Postecoglou guided Tottenham Hotspur to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League this past season, narrowly missing out on the Champions League.

That is where the Tottenham boss wants to go next season, but that will take some clever summer transfer business.

Tottenham already have two deals done and dusted with midfielder Lucas Bergvall coming in and Timo Werner returning on loan from RB Leipzig.

There is much more business to be done though and Tottenham will continue to look for young talents alongside potential first-team additions.

Tottenham Hotspur want Celtic’s Daniel Kelly

The latest name being linked to Tottenham is another talented youngster.

The Daily Record claim that Tottenham are now interested in signing Celtic teenager Daniel Kelly.

It’s stated that Spurs have joined Manchester United in the race for the Bhoys talent.

Tottenham are believed to be tracking Kelly closely as Postecoglou considers raiding his former club.

Kelly will enter the final six months of his Celtic contract in July and that gives other clubs a chance to tee up a move.

Celtic are pushing to try and tie Kelly down to a new deal but the Premier League interest may now turn his head.

Kelly is understood to have been on Tottenham’s radar for a while now but he will be familiar to Postecoglou from their time at Celtic.

Bayer Leverkusen, Bologna and Como are keen too with Tottenham believing that Kelly can be an Under-23 addition before potentially rising into the first team.

Kelly would like to stay at Celtic for now but he can earn much more elsewhere – and Celtic could only bring in £490,000 in compensation if he does go.

Who is Celtic talent Kelly?

18-year-old Kelly has come up in the Celtic youth ranks and has now made six first-team appearances.

The midfielder even scored in a 7-1 thrashing of Dundee in February having broken through under Brendan Rodgers.

Kelly was emerging in the Celtic ranks under Postecoglou but never made a first-team appearance with the Australian at the helm.

Postecoglou may well have spotted Kelly’s talent and potential in the Celtic ranks and now wants to lure him to Tottenham.

Hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Celtic captain Callum McGregor, Kelly is being tipped for a big future in the coming years.

Beating United to his signature won’t be easy, but Tottenham may look for Postecoglou’s Celtic connection to get the deal done.
