'Here we go, soon': Fabrizio Romano says Newcastle are now expected to sign truly 'incredible' player

Newcastle United have a busy summer in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their ranks whilst balancing their books.

The Magpies squad was pushed to its limits during the 2023/24 campaign and they’ll need to increase their strength in depth.

However, Newcastle must also abide by profit and sustainability rules, which means they must be careful in the market or risk a points deduction further down the line.

This means the Magpies are expected to look at free transfers to bolster their ranks without putting them at risk of breaching financial rules.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are closing in on one such player, namely Lloyd Kelly.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Newcastle and Lloyd Kelly?

Romano, taking to X, has reported that Newcastle are prepared to complete a deal for Kelly “in the next weeks, working on formal details of the free transfer.”

He added: “Understand there’s no change of plans like happened for Tosin Adarabioyo; Kelly, expected to join #NUFC in July. Here we go, soon.”

When a player of Kelly’s quality becomes available on the market, moving for him is a must.

And when such a player is available on a free transfer, then pushing to sign him becomes an absolute no-brainer.

We’ve all seen what Kelly can do. He’s a top player who is proven in the Premier League and, at just 25 years of age, he’s yet to reach his prime.

The ‘incredible‘ talent is also capable of playing at both left-back and centre-back at a high level, so he ticks two boxes for Newcastle position-wise.

In addition, Eddie Howe knows Kelly well from his time at Bournemouth, so all in all, this would be an outstanding signing for the Magpies.

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. It looks as though it won’t be long before we get the all-important ‘here we go’.
