Report: Chelsea now consider £34m attacker a 'key target' for this summer after giving up on Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are now turning their attention towards a 26-year-old attacker after giving up on signing Napoli’s Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Telegraph previously claimed that Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca would like the club to focus on signing a new goalkeeper, left-back and forward.

It’s been suggested in the media that Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen is no longer a realistic Blues target despite previous interest. Journalist Fabrizio Romano said via X that Chelsea are not planning to make a move for Osimhen this summer.

Chelsea make La Liga striker a ‘key target’

FootballTransfers claims that Chelsea have switched their attention towards Girona’s Artem Dovbyk after ending long-term interest in Osimhen.

Dovbyk, 26, is on Chelsea’s radar after completing a superb campaign in Spain with Girona, who finished third in La Liga.

It is understood that the Ukrainian centre-forward is a ‘key target’ for the Blues this summer.

The report adds that Dovbyk has a release clause in his Girona deal worth €40m (£34m).

Artem Dovbyk a possible bargain

Based on the 2023/24 campaign, Dovbyk looks like he could be snapped up for a serious bargain at less than £35m.

The powerful left-footed striker spearheaded the attack so effectively last season for surprise packages Girona.

He scored 24 goals and made 10 assists in 39 matches across all competitions for the Spanish top-flight club.

On top of that, he’s netted eight goals in 26 senior international caps for Ukraine.

The Chelsea Chronicle does like the idea of the Girona forward arriving at Stamford Bridge to battle it out with Nicolas Jackson for the No 9 position. They’re two different types of strikers that would give Enzo Maresca nice options.
