Borussia Dortmund in talks to buy Chelsea player
Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen, who’s spent the last six months on loan with German giants Borussia Dortmund, is linked with a permanent switch to the Bundesliga.
Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed via X that Dortmund really like Maatsen and are in discussions about buying him.
It is explained that the 22-year-old left-back has a release clause in his Chelsea deal worth £35m.
However, Dortmund don’t plan to pay the full release clause. Instead, they think he’s worth around £27m.
Ian Maatsen has a big future
Whether it’s in the colours of Chelsea or Dortmund, The Chelsea Chronicle is confident that Maatsen has a great career ahead of him. The way he’s performed in the second half of last season for Dortmund, particularly in the Champions League, is proof of his quality.
Speaking via Football.London in July last year, Mauricio Pochettino described Maatsen as a talented young defender with “enermous potential”. That makes it even more frustrating that he was loaned out by him further down the line.
It would be fantastic to see Maatsen reintegrated into Chelsea’s squad for pre-season, especially because he could suit the style of new head coach Enzo Maresca.
However, the Dutch full-back is reportedly pushing for a permanent exit.
Sky Germany previously reported that Maatsen has already told Chelsea that he does not want to return to the club in the summer.
