Daniel Levy says recent transfer rumour involving Heung-min Son is a ‘complete lie’

Daniel Levy has reportedly issued a statement claiming a recent transfer rumour involving Heung-min Son is a ‘complete lie’.

The Tottenham chairman isn’t exactly known for his willingness to speak to the media, with appearances on that front a rarity during his 23-year reign.

Last year, Daniel Levy sat down with the Cambridge Union for a Q&A in what was a surprising sight for Spurs supporters.

We’ve barely heard from the Spurs chief since, barring the odd statement on the club’s official website.

But according to Turkish outlet Sports Digitale, Levy was keen to stamp out any speculation over Heung-min Son’s future.

Levy issues statement on Son rumours

Jose Mourinho has been officially named as the new Fenerbahce boss and typically, it hasn’t taken long for the Turkish giants to be linked with moves for Tottenham players.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the first to be linked with a reunion with Mourinho on Tuesday.

TEAMtalk claimed just today that Mourinho is also keen to make Son one of his first signings at his new club. It’s noted that the Portuguese boss has included the Tottenham star on his shortlist for the summer.

But Sports Digitale claims Levy has issued a statement on the Son rumours and said: “Heung-min Son-Fenerbahçe news is a complete lie.”

Son won’t be leaving Tottenham

Despite a relatively successful spell under Mourinho on an individual level, Son still has plenty of unfinished business at Spurs.

Tottenham are also reportedly ready to trigger an extension in the 31-year-old’s contract, with just a year left on his current deal.

As Ange Postecoglou’s captain, it’s difficult to see Spurs entertaining any offers for their talisman this summer, particularly just a year after Harry Kane’s departure.

Son very much remains Spurs’ main man in the final third and his 17 goals last season helped Postecoglou’s men secure a fifth-place finish.
