Jose Mourinho aims fresh dig at Tottenham while discussing Harry Kane

Jose Mourinho has aimed yet another dig at Tottenham Hotspur while discussing former Spurs star Harry Kane.

The Portuguese boss was sacked after just 17 months in charge back in April 2021 and it would appear he isn’t quite over that decision.

Mourinho hasn’t shied away from aiming digs at Tottenham since his departure, with his main issue being he was sacked adjust days before the League Cup final that year.

Spurs faced Manchester City at Wembley and suffered a 1-0 defeat under caretaker boss Ryan Mason.

Mourinho has since labelled the decision to dismiss him on the eve of a cup final ‘ridiculous’ and also named Tottenham as the only former club he doesn’t feel a deep connection with.

Now, Mourinho has been speaking about Harry Kane, who left Spurs for Bayern Munich last summer, and he couldn’t resist yet another swipe at his former club.

Mourinho takes aim at Tottenham

It’s no secret that Kane has enjoyed an exceptional debut season at Bayern, netting 44 times in 45 appearances. But his search for silverware continues as the German giants missed out on all major trophies last season.

Mourinho has been speaking about the England captain and claimed Kane would’ve had a trophy to his name had Spurs kept him in charge for the League Cup final.

“Kane has scored goals for Tottenham, England, and I had no doubts that he would score goals for Bayern,” Mourinho said.

“Harry is a fantastic, complete player who scores goals from all over the pitch but isn’t selfish – he assists, drops deep, builds play, presses, defends.

“The only thing he is missing is to win a trophy. He was my player at Tottenham and I was going to win one with him, but I was sacked six days before the final.”

Tottenham’s gamble backfired

It was a huge risk to name Mason as caretaker boss just six days before a League Cup final.

The fact that Mourinho was a specialist in these situations makes the decision all the more baffling.

Mourinho had lost the support of the dressing room by this stage but surely it would have made sense to at least give him a chance in the final.

With that being said, it feels highly unlikely that the result would have been any different had Mourinho remained in charge.
