Queen Camilla stands out in bright outfit but she had a bitter-sweet reason

Queen Consort Camilla stood out in her pink outfit against a sea of dark-colored suits for the special event commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The royal, who was joined by the monarch and the heir to the throne, chose a surprising pop of color, and it was a striking contrast to the dark colors for the memorable service. King Charles went for a black suit, with a matching black and red and white striped tie with his son, while wearing his medals of honor. Prince William, on the other hand, opted for a dark navy blue suit as he stood next to his father and stepmother. Although Queen Camilla‘s outfit seemed bright and juxtaposed to others around, it seems to be she’s taking pointers from the late Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022.

The 76-year-old was easy to spot in the gathering, as mostly dark-colored outfits and military uniforms were featured around her. Queen Camilla chose a pale pink coat dress and hat ensemble, as she paid her respects to those who gave their lives during World War II.

Typically, members of The Firm wear black or dark clothing at services of remembrance, including gloves, shoes and hats. It’s common to see when those from the Palace lay down wreaths on Remembrance Sunday (Veterans Day) in November, to honor fallen soldiers.

But Camilla’s stark contrast has a sweet connection to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The former monarch would make a point of wearing bright and colorful outfits at events, to ensure fans and members of the crowd who came to see her could see her.

Royal expert Daisy McAndrew said it was a conscious decision to wear festive outfits, so people would notice her, literally.

McAndrew said: “She’s quite small — so sometimes just quite difficult to spot — so her dressers … decided some years ago that it would be helpful if she was brightly colored so that people could spot her easily.”

Expanding further than the literal sense, the late Queen always drummed in an important motto to her family, and those who would work for the monarchy.

“You have to be seen to be believed,” she would say, according to reports. This would include being out there in the public, meeting people, speaking to charities and showing your face with the patronages you look after for The Crown.

Therefore, Queen Camilla seems to have wanted to keep this tradition alive for Elizabeth II.

Camilla’s ensemble is a striking resemblance to Queen Elizabeth II’s outfit for her walkabout from her Silver Jubilee in 1977.

She wore a flowing pink dress, with a matching coat and hat, tights and white shoes and gloves as she greeted well-wishers.

For this year’s D-Day event, Camilla chose a Fiona Clare pink coat dress and wore it with a matching Philip Treacy beret. It’s the same outfit she wore when she visited France in September last year.

The royal couple met with president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte.

Not only did she get the same wardrobe pieces out for display, but she wore the same jewelry, including a four-strand pearl necklace which has a diamond clasp.
