Report: Man City now eyeing transfer move for Crystal Palace star, Declan Rice says he’s ‘top-level’

Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a transfer move for one of their fellow Premier League club’s star players.

The Manchester club have shown in the past that they aren’t against signing players from other clubs in the top flight.

For example, they have secured deals for the likes of Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Jack Grealish among others in recent transfer windows.

Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding another top-flight figure the Blues have on their transfer radar.

Man City identify Adam Wharton as long-term transfer target

According to a recent report from the Evening Standard, City have identified Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as a long-term transfer target.

The report adds that City are “not expected to move for Wharton this summer but they view him as a potential future signing, as part of midfield succession planning at the Etihad Stadium.”

After making 51 senior appearances for Blackburn Rovers, the 20-year-old joined Palace during the previous January transfer window in a deal worth £22m.

Wharton has had a strong start to his Premier League career

Having only featured in 16 games for the Eagles, the midfielder has earned himself a place in the England squad for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.

In fact, England midfielder Declan Rice recently described Wharton as a “top-level” player.

The Englishman’s performances across the 16 Premier League games he featured in for Palace earned him a season rating of 6.93/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest-rated player at the South London club.

This shows just how quickly it took him to adapt to top-flight football and why he’s found himself in the England squad and now being linked with a future move to City.

Moving forward, if the youngster continues to impress, he could be an exciting transfer move for the Citizens to make.

However, it seems likely that they won’t be the only club interested in landing a deal for the Palace star in the future.
