Tottenham have now made contact with ‘exceptional’ right-back they want to replace Emerson Royal

Tottenham Hotspur have already identified the player they want to bring in this summer to replace Emerson Royal.

With the summer transfer window yet to open, Tottenham have looked proactive having already secured the loan signing of Timo Werner for the 2024/25 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side were able to put on an impressive 2023/24 showing, but there were clear areas for improvement having narrowly missed out on the top four.

The Australian has now had a full year to assess the options he inherited when he was appointed and it seems there are up to 15 players Spurs are willing to sell this summer.

One of those players could well be Emerson Royal, the Brazilian is said to be keen to leave Tottenham with talks ongoing over a potential move to AC MIlan.

And it now seems as if Tottenham have picked out the player they’d like to bring in this summer to replace the Brazilian right-back.

Tottenham identify another Brazilian to replace Emerson Royal

Spurs have been able to acquire one of the Premier League’s best full-back duos in Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie.

However, the issues lie in the backup Tottenham have when either of these players are in need of a rest from the starting XI.

With a new format Europa League to come next season, Spurs are going to need a large squad filled with quality and Emerson did not show his value last season when filling in at full-back.

Emerson was slammed by the Tottenham fans for his display against Chelsea and his next game against Liverpool wasn’t any better.

And according to a report from Bruno Andrade, Spurs have now identified Monaco’s Vanderson as the player they want to replace Emerson with.

The journalist has claimed Spurs have now made first contact with Monaco over a potential deal for the 22-year-old right-back.

Former Monaco manager Philippe Clement hailed the right-back during his time at the club as being a “perfectionist”.

“He had an exceptional adaptation here [2021/22]. We have already spoken about that. He is also a player who is and continues to interest lots of big clubs, he told the GFFN.

“That can possibly do something to the mindset, not that he didn’t have his feet on the ground, but Vanderson is very ambitious and a huge perfectionist.”

Vanderson could provide Tottenham with a big upgrade on Emerson Royal

Quality squad depth is going to be crucial to Tottenham’s success next season with a much busier schedule to come will test Postecoglou’s ability to rotate his side.

And last season showed the likes of Emerson just did not cut it for the Australian as he failed to provide adequate cover for either starting full-back when called upon.

Comparing the pair’s 2023/24 campaign, it only highlights why Spurs have identified Vanderson as their potential successor for Emerson.

At just 22 years of age, Vanderson is by no means the finished product with still a lot to come in terms of his end product, in comparison to Porro.

However, he has shown a lot of promise for a young full-back and could offer a much more solid alternative to what Emerson has provided Tottenham.
