Tottenham fans are all in agreement after claims Tanguy Ndombele is set to leave

Tanguy Ndombele’s time at Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly set to come to an end.

The Frenchman was snapped up for a club-record fee of £63 million back in 2019 and to say the move hasn’t quite worked out would be an understatement.

Tanguy Ndombele enjoyed a fairly bright start to life at Tottenham and also showed glimpses of his quality under Jose Mourinho. But the midfielder has failed to impress several managers during his five years at the club and has spent the past two and a half seasons out on loan.

During this time, Spurs have struggled to offload Ndombele after underwhelming loan spells at Lyon, Napoli and Galatasaray.

It seems that Spurs are ready to cut their losses on the midfielder as recent reports claim Ndombele has agreed to terminate his contract.

Tottenham fans react to Ndombele rumours

With Ndombele reportedly set to leave Tottenham on a free transfer, you can’t help but wonder just how good the Frenchman could have been in a Spurs shirt.

Ndombele has never lacked when it comes to ability but has often underwhelmed with his application and work rate.

And Spurs fans on social media seem to be in agreement on Ndombele’s imminent departure, with many rating him as the club’s worst-ever signing.

One fan wrote: “Unexpected but good news. This guy has been our single worst signing ever. Time to draw a line under the whole sorry saga.”

“I remember how this was such an exciting signing 5 years ago! Rodri was signed the same summer while we were hyping Ndombele for his skills but unfortunately, it was all style over substance and he will go down as pound for pound one of the worst signings in our history,” another agreed.

“Great news. This is what you got to do in a clear out. Cut your losses sometimes move on,” one fan said.

“Worst signing we’ve ever made, but boy he had some brilliant moments. Stellar player on his day but simply never met expectations on a consistent basis,” another supporter added.

A fan also said: “Wow. One of the worst transfers in our club’s history, still don’t think he was as bad as he was made out to be but still a crazy spiral out of control.”

Tottenham off to a positive start to the summer

It was claimed just last month that Spurs had a 15-man list of players that Ange Postecoglou wanted to offload this summer.

Following the departures of Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga, it looks as if Ndombele will follow the quartet out the door.

While Spurs have lost significant fees on the above players, it should benefit the club to reduce the wage bill ahead of the transfer window.

It’s no secret that Tottenham have struggled to offload first-team players in the past but having five out the door in ruthless fashion may indicate a slight switch in approach.
