Report: Everton now eyeing move for ‘world-class’ player on free transfer, Thelwell set to offer him a contract

Everton are reportedly ready to offer a contract to a player who is set to become a free agent this month.

It’s no secret that Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell is set to head into the transfer window with his hands tied behind his back.

The Toffees are set to be searching for astute signings as they look to balance the books while they also face the possibility of offloading a key player or two ahead of June 30.

Talks are progressing over a deal to re-sign Jack Harrison on loan from Leeds United after the winger played a key role under Sean Dyche last term.

Now, it seems Everton are ready to step up their interest in a player who excelled in the Championship last season.

Everton readying Wilfred Ndidi offer

Wilfred Ndidi looks set to leave the King Power Stadium at the end of the month upon his contract expiring.

The Nigerian midfielder racked up 36 appearances for the Foxes last season as they secured a Championship title.

Now, TEAMtalk reports that Ndidi features high on Everton’s shortlist of targets this summer. It’s claimed that the Toffees view the midfielder as an ideal candidate to replace Amadou Onana should the Belgian head out the door.

Dyche is also said to be a fan of the player and requested the signing, which has led to Thelwell working on an offer for him.

As well as Everton, Sevilla and Real Sociedad are also plotting a free transfer swoop for Ndidi while other offers from the Premier League cannot be ruled out.

Ndidi would be ideal for Sean Dyche

Given the financial position Everton are in, a move for Ndidi makes plenty of sense for them right now.

The 27-year-old is Premier League proven and his physicality would lend itself well to Dyche’s style of play.

With the departure of Onana a real possibility this summer, Everton arguably couldn’t do much better than Ndidi, especially on a free transfer.

Ndidi was previously lauded as a ‘world-class‘ player during his best years in the Premier League and while injuries hampered his momentum, his displays last season show he is rediscovering his best form.
