Atletico Madrid join Jose Mourinho in Tottenham transfer raid for star unhappy with Ange Postecoglou role

Former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has been linked with a potential raid of the squad heading into the summer transfer window.

It comes ahead of an important few months for Spurs when shaping the squad for the upcoming season.

Ange Postecoglou has implemented his playing style well at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with early results especially going in his favour.

However, the Tottenham boss still has plenty of work to do, with a downturn in form for the latter half of the previous campaign displaying the need for reinforcements.

While the Lilywhites will focus on potential incomings to bolster their options, gaining a balance within the dressing room will also be key.

That means some exits from Tottenham, with one star gaining attention from former boss Mourinho as well as a few others.

Jose Mourinho eyes Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer reunion at Fenerbahce

One player who may be on the move in the summer transfer window this summer is midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish international has struggled for game time under Postecoglou, with the Tottenham manager opting for other players in the central areas.

Speaking to Tipsbladet in March, the 28-year-old vented his frustration with his role, saying: “Of course, I am not satisfied with what is going on at the club. It’s not a secret, but it’s not something I make a fuss about either.

“I can put my head on the pillow knowing that I’m giving it my all to show the coach he has to believe in me. This is not the case at the moment, and it is the coach who must explain why.”

With a possible exit on the cards, the Daily Mail reports that Mourinho is showing interest in raiding Spurs to land Hojbjerg.

The former Tottenham coach recently joined Turkish side Fenerbahce, with his project set to kickstart over the summer.

They aren’t the only team in the mix though.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer links

With one year remaining on Hojbjerg’s contract, Fenerbahce are, naturally, not the only team showing interest in a move.

The Daily Mail claims that Atletico Madrid are in the race alongside Napoli, Juventus and Fulham all clamouring for the midfielder’s signature.

The Spanish giants have been well known for their hard-working style under Diego Simeone, which may be an ideal fit for Hojbjerg.

Tottenham transfer priority

In the early weeks of the transfer window, Tottenham look set to make some ruthless changes to the squad.

Spurs have made some progress under Postecoglou but it’s clear that the squad will need some trimming to add more quality.

Departures for the likes of Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon have already saved Tottenham some money while cutting down the squad for the coming summer.

There’s still work to be done though, with Tanguy Ndombele amongst those linked with a move away from Spurs.

With a few other switches, it may finally give Johan Lange a chance to bolster the ranks with quality.
