Ledley King admits one Tottenham player’s performances have really shocked him over the past season

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King has admitted there is one player who has really surprised him under Ange Postecoglou.

This summer’s transfer window marks 12 months of Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a fifth-placed finish now under his belt.

A lot has changed at Hotspur Way in that time with Tottenham seeing European football return ahead of the new campaign.

Players have come and gone since the Australian arrived in north London and more of the same is set to follow over the coming months.

But Spurs legend Ledley King has admitted there’s one player he cannot wait to watch again having been impressed with him over the 2023/24 term.

Ledley King admits he’s been impressed by specific Tottenham player

Although it turned out to be somewhat of a turbulent season for Spurs, there were some seriously impressive individual performances from Postecoglou’s men.

Injuries tarred the campaigns of players like James Maddison who made a stunning start to the season earning the August Player of the Month award.

However, he had to wait until the final few games of the term to show the form Spurs fans had come to expect from him.

One other player who was struck by injury issues was Micky van de Ven with two seperate hamstring issues which saw him sidelined for months.

However, speaking to the club’s website, King has admitted he has been really impressed with just how good Van de Ven was in his first season in the Premier League.

“If I’m honest, he’s shocked me!” said King.

“There are not many times you get a young, left-footed, centre-half who is rapid, and you don’t know too much about him.

“I didn’t know too much about him… so, for him to be here and to be of the quality he is, it’s really impressive. He’s impressed everyone, he’s been fantastic… scoring goals as well as well as defending! I love everything about him.”

Where Micky van de Ven has been playing for the Netherlands

The 2024 European Championships is now just days away from kicking off and Van de Ven will be representing the Netherlands.

However, centre-back is arguably his nation’s strongest position with Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt also available for selection.

In the two warm-up friendlies leading up to their trip to Germany, Van de Ven has featured at left-back on both occasions.

Speaking after the most recent game, Van de Ven admitted it is a position he feels comfortable playing.

“Wherever he [Koeman] needs me, I will play,” he told the media.

“Of course I also focus on the left back position, but I can play in both positions.”

And that is something which Spurs fans saw at the end of the season when the Dutchman filled in for the injured Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies.

No matter where he plays, Van de Ven looks like he can do no wrong, Spurs fans will just be hoping his injuries are not something which will crop up every season.
