"The saviour": Danish media react to Joachim Andersen's display for Denmark vs England in EURO 2024

Joachim Andersen started for Denmark in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with England and after his display, Danish media were reacting.

Two games into the 2024 European Championships and Denmark sits on just two points, leaving all to play for in the final round of group-stage matches.

The 1-1 draw with England saw Joachim Andersen and his Denmark side come from behind with Morten Hjulmand equalising with a screamer of a goal after Harry Kane had made it 1-0.

For Andersen, Thursday also saw him come up against two of his Crystal Palace teammates Marc Guehi and Ebere Ezewho he fouled at one stage.

After a decent display while playing in a back three system he’ll be familiar with, the media in Denmark have now reviewed his performance.

How Danish media reacted to Joachim Andersen’s display vs England

After the draw, the media in Denmark overall gave Andersen a positive review for his display in red.

Bold rated Andersen positively, giving him a 6/10 and writing a solid review: “After the poor second half against Slovenia, Joachim Andersen raised his level against England.

“Still a few uncertain interventions, but he also shows a nice initiative on the ball – both with passes and runs forward in the field.”

Next to give Andersen a review was PL Bold and here he was scored rather high in comparison to the previous outlet, with a 5/6.

“In the duels with Harry Kane, he was really strong. He was also the saviour a few times when teammates made passing mistakes.”

Sport TV2 was next to rate Andersen’s display, handing him a 7 rating while complimenting the fact he played as though he knew his opponents well.

“He threw himself into it all like it was a Premier League game. He clearly knew his opponents – after all, a few of them are his teammates – and matched them to the letter.”

Finally, the outlet DR handed him a 10/12 rating and wrote: “There was also good control of Joachim Andersen’s right part of the Danish defensive line, and he often went forward along the pitch. Here, on the other hand, he is less comfortable, but as a stopper, he was concentrated and strong throughout the entire 93 minutes.”

How Joachim Andersen played for Denmark vs England

Andersen played the entirety of Thursday night’s game for Denmark at centre-half and as his reviews suggest he was pretty impressive.

Andersen won six duels against England according to FotMob, including all five of his aerial duels which showcases his dominance in the air.

Andersen won one of his one tackles attempted while making four defensive actions, two recoveries along with a block and a clearance.

The great Dane had 82 touches of the ball and completed 91 per cent of his 74 passes attempted while creating one chance and making nine passes into the final third.

All around, Andersen can be happy with his display against England, but everything now hinges on Denmark beating Serbia, otherwise, it could be home time.
