Aston Villa can’t afford to lose ‘sensational’ 19-goal wonderkid amid recent PSR academy exodus

Aston Villa are offloading several academy talents this summer to aid PSR concerns however, the club must never use such tactic with one player.

The summer transfer window has started with a bang for Aston Villa, who like many other clubs, must generate profit before June 30th.

As a result of Villa’s PSR concerns, several players have already been linked with moves away, most notably first-team favourite Douglas Luiz.

Tim Iroegbunam has officially cut his ties with the Villans as he signed for Everton, with the academy graduate not likely to be the last to bid farewell to Bodymoor Heath.

Aston Villa are using academy talents to aid PSR concerns this summer

While no academy exit will generate as much attention as Villa’s £100m sale of Jack Grealish in 2021, the Villans are in the spotlight for some deals this summer.

This week, three Bodymoor Heath talents have been speculated with a departure, as Omari Kellyman and Lamare Bogarde look set to exit behind Iroegbunam.

While Villa will make much-needed profit from the sales, there is a feeling of regret in the deals, as without PSR, it would be highly unlikely that the club would part ways with the players so prematurely.

Of course, the Midlands club must focus on adhering to financial rules although, selling a highly-rated academy player must not be used frequently.

Kellyman was considered the likely academy candidate to next break into Emery’s side, with the Englishman not the only starlet in the running for bigger things in B6.

Villa must not sacrifice Rory Wilson for PSR in the near future

Described as a ‘sensational’ talent by U23 scout Antonio Mango, Villa starlet Rory Wilson is arguably one of the most valuable players in the academy right now.

The Scotsman arrived at Villa Park in the summer of 2022 from Rangers and has since scored 34 goals at both U18 and U21 level, despite being just 18 years old.

Wilson was offered a five-year contract at Villa in March amid interest, as Fabrizio Romano detailed he was being ‘monitored by many clubs’ due to his scoring form.

While the striker could generate the Villans astounding profit in the near future, Monchi and Emery must be reluctant to part ways with the forward, who clearly has something very special in his locker.

Across 2023/24, Wilson netted 19 goals and claimed two assists, showcasing his consistency and ability to be the reliable scorer needed in both the U18 and U21 squads.

It would be a heartbreaking scenario for Villa to one day part ways with the Scotsman too early, as his form at academy level is hinting at the marvellous player he could become at Villa Park.

Another high-scoring season in 2024/25 could result in clubs swarming around the teenager again, with there a more desperate need for Emery to nurture him than to offload him for a small chunk of the profit that he could one day generate.

It’s rare that talents as strong as Wilson arrive at an academy, giving Emery the tools to unearth the next big thing at Villa Park in a talent that must be considered far more than a PSR-fuelled exchange.
