Report: West Ham make contact to sign striker with 54 Premier League goals

According to a recent report, The Hammers have enquired about the availability of a Premier League striker.

West Ham have been very active in the summer transfer window having already signed talented Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme.

Now, their focus has turned towards signing a striker with Jonathan David, Youssef En-Nesyri and Fotis Ioannidis among the names linked with a move to East London.

A fresh rumour has just emerged.

West Ham make contact to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin

According to Chronicle Live, West Ham have made contact to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.

The 27-year-old looked all but set to join Newcastle United but that move collapsed due to Everton’s steep asking price of £40m.

The Magpies were only willing to pay £25m, which evidently wasn’t enough to tempt the Merseysiders into a sale.

So, if the Hammers are to land Calvert-Lewin’s signature this summer, they’ll need to stump up a substantial sum of cash, which they may be reluctant to do given his injury record.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin statistics

Calvert-Lewin netted eight times whilst laying on three assists across 38 appearances last term.

The 11-cap England international has 54 Premier League goals to his name and FBref data has likened him to Dominic Solanke – who has been a long-term target of West Ham.

Perhaps they see Calvert-Lewin as a cheaper alternative to the Bournemouth frontman, who has a £65m release clause active for the traditional big six clubs.

At this stage, it is not yet known what West Ham’s budget is but it’s likely that they’ll have to trade and move players on to facilitate incomings, like most clubs across the top-flight and beyond.

Nayef Aguerd has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, so perhaps his sale could fund a move for the Toffees number nine.
