Liverpool should make move to sign 'electric' winger who has been brilliant at Euro 2024 so far - opinion

Liverpool should have grand plans for next season, which means they simply must make a splash in the summer transfer window.

New manager Arne Slot is certain to be backed by FSG, who were generous to Jurgen Klopp in many transfer windows for several years.

The owners were, however, very careful with their spending, with that situation set to continue in the years to come.

It remains to be seen exactly which areas the Dutchman will want to strengthen, with a big and talented squad needed to compete in all competitions.

According to David Ornstein, however, Liverpool are definitely looking for a new wide player ahead of the new season.

Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz could exit Liverpool this summer

Exits in that area could take place, with Liverpool wanting in excess of £100million for star winger Mohamed Salah from Saudi clubs this summer.

Another winger whose future is up in the air is Luis Diaz, with a potential swap deal emerging involving the Colombian and Barcelona’s Raphinha.

But regardless of what happens with the duo, Slot could be tempted to bring in a new attacker in order to really take the Premier League and Europe by storm next season.

The Reds are back in the Champions League after their top-four league finish last time out, which should help Slot persuade big-name players to come to Anfield.

Liverpool should make a move for Euro 2024 star Nico Williams

And one such player who the Dutchman should be going all-out to bring to Merseyside is Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

The ‘electric’ attacker registered superb tallies of eight goals and 19 assists for the Spanish club last season, playing a key role as they lifted the Copa del Rey trophy.

The 21-year-old has now taken that form into Euro 2024, where Williams is shining very brightly for Spain in Germany.

His displays at the tournament will undoubtedly be catching the eye of many top European clubs, meaning a lengthy battle for his services is likely to take place this summer.

And that is a battle that Liverpool simply have to get involved in if they want to succeed immediately under Slot.

It could be a while, however, before the player can focus on his club football, with Spain looking likely of going far at Euro 2024.

Williams was hugely impressive in the 1-0 win against defending champions Italy, having also shone in the opening 3-0 win over Croatia before being handed a deserved rest in the 1-0 victory over Albania.
