Toyota Australia has recently announced that it will roll out several flagship upgrades for the Hilux, preparing it for the battle against the all-new Ford Ranger in Australia. The Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger have been competing for the top sales spot in Australia for some time. Additionally, Toyota have announced that they are working on a truck to fight against the Ford Ranger Raptor, Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, Jeep Gladiator, and other top-class off-roading midsize trucks.
The upcoming unnamed model Toyota truck will replace the Hilux Rugged X. According to Australian outlet CarsGuide, Toyota has stated that it will be an apex off-roader, meaning the Ford Ranger Raptor, Chevy Colorado ZR2, and GMC Canyon AT4X is about to have some significant competition. It’s unclear if there are plans to bring this upcoming truck to North America, but we are certainly hopeful.
Toyota Hilux Rogue: Updates
It has been made clear that there will also be updates coming to the flagship Rogue model of the Toyota Hilux, which will be getting a 140 mm (5.5 inches) wider track in both the front and rear, as well as a 20mm (0.8 inch) boost to the vehicles ground clearance. In addition, Toyota will be overhauling the front suspension set-up, with the front suspension arm and front stabilizer bar length extended along with the shock absorber angle changing to improve efficiency, says the report. At the vehicle’s rear, the axle lengths will be extended, and dampers will be shifted further toward the wheels. There is also a new rear stabilizer bar. All of this should improve vehicle performance off-road and on-road.
Toyota has also given the truck a tougher new look with the assistance of wider over fenders and new mudguards, along with a new design to the front end to make it look broader and angrier. We have seen other manufacturers doing something similar to their updated or next-generation trucks.
